Trial overview
Official title: Inner-City Asthma School Program - “Building Bridges: Advancing Education by Improving Asthma Management in Inner-City Children”
Trial description: The goal of the GSK Inner-city Asthma School Building Bridges program is to decrease the overall burden of asthma in school-aged children and to improve long-term school performance among disadvantaged inner-city children by improving short-term asthma control and school attendance. This program represents a multidisciplinary collaboration between leaders in the field of asthma management, schools, primary care physicians and school nurses, who have designed and administered programs to advance asthma care for children in their community. The purpose of this effort is to define a model program and then provide resources to extend the Building Bridges model program through a mentorship effort that is coordinated by leaders in the field of asthma care in children. In this way, we will build bridges of communication between inner-city schools and health care providers (HCPs) to reduce health disparities for asthma with the ultimate goal of improving education outcomes for children in inner-city schools.
